Moving Tips from All Storage

Moving to a new place is overwhelming enough without the packing process and everything that goes along with it. All Storage is your premium storage company if you are in Texas and Oklahoma, but these moving tips apply to everyone, no matter where you live. Let us share some of the ways we have made our lives easier. With a little preparation and a lot of packing tape, you can make the moving process go much more smoothly, one box at a time.

1. Reserve a moving truck and carpet cleaners a month ahead of time.

2. Gather your moving supplies. All Storage offers moving supplies if you are in Texas or Oklahoma, or if you are not, you can buy boxes from a local moving store or you can get old boxes from a grocery store. If you buy your boxes from a moving company, you can return unused boxes for a refund, so get as many boxes as you can! Have packing tape, different colored sticky notes or labels (to color code and write what is contained in each box), newsprint and bubble wrap, and permanent markers (It helps to hang a marker around your neck with a string. It is easy to misplace these things about a million times during the chaos), and scissors.

3. Keep your cleaning supplies unpacked so that you can clean after you're all moved out and so that you can also clean the new place before unpacking. Keep toiletries handy and an extra change of clothes packed in a "right away" box that contains everything you anticipate needing the first day of moving in.

4. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Pack up your house or apartment one room at a time. You will just get overwhelmed if you start thinking about every room you need to pack up.

5. LABEL EVERYTHING AS YOU GO. It will take a bit more time, but it will save you TONS of time when you unpack.

6. Keep clothing on hangers, if possible. When packing these, lay them flat in a wardrobe box, alternating which end of the box the hanger is on. This will maximize your space, clothes won't get as wrinkled, and you don't have to take all that extra time putting your clothes back on hangers.

7. Group all of your boxes into room groups. All boxes with pink labels are grouped and all of them go in the living room. All boxes with blue labels are grouped and go in the kitchen...

8. Use ALL of your containers. Pack things in your trash cans, luggage, bags, even pillowcases! It is easier to remember what you packed in your pillowcase as opposed to a brown box that looks like all the rest.

9. Always know where important papers are. Keep these with you. This is one box you can't afford to lose.

10. It's wise to open a checking account in your new town about a month prior to your move to have immediate access to your funds. Make sure your address and information is changed on your bills, doctors’ records, school records, and any other important documents that include contact information. Notify the Post Office so they know when and where to forward your mail.

11. Reserve a storage space for furniture and belongings that you cannot fit or do not want to move into your new home right away. If you need storage in Texas or Oklahoma storage units, All Storage have top-of-the-line amenities to keep your belongings safe, clean, and secure.
