An Update on What's Open in Oklahoma City

How open is Oklahoma City right now? According to a recent WalletHub study ranking states reopening statuses, it’s pretty open. The study compared all 50 states plus Washington D.C. across 17 different metrics including travel restrictions, gathering limitations, face mask requirements, restaurant and bar reopenings, and work from home requirements. Oklahoma came in fourth, meaning that the state has some of the fewest COVID-19 restrictions in the nation right now (if you’re curious, the study found that South Dakota was the least restrictive and Hawaii was the most restrictive).

That being said, if you’re living in or visiting Oklahoma City, things still look a bit different than they did pre-pandemic. For example, face masks are required in indoor public spaces for anyone 11 and up. These requirements will either expire or be renewed on December 7th.

Restaurants and Bars

Restaurants, bars, nightclubs, breweries, wineries, mall food courts, even vaping lounges—you name it, it’s open. These businesses are allowed to operate at 50% capacity and all employees must be masked. If you prefer to stick with takeout or delivery, many restaurants in OKC are still emphasizing this and taking measures to make it easier than ever.

Attractions

Most attractions including zoos, museums, gardens, and more are open in Oklahoma City. If you go, take a look online first to confirm opening status and to review any COVID-19 protocols. For example, the Oklahoma City Zoo requires advanced ticket sales and has closed some exhibits where social distancing isn’t possible (skip it if you were especially psyched about the Herpetarium, which is currently closed for this reason). Other attractions, such as Frontier City Theme Park have instituted temperature checks and unique seating limitations on rides. If you prefer a super socially distanced experience, look for OKC attractions with virtual experiences, such as the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, which is not only open to in-person visits, but also offers a pretty cool virtual tour.

Gyms

If you gained the Covid fifteen during quarantine, you will be delighted to learn that gyms are open. This includes fitness clubs, skating rinks, climbing gyms, bowling alleys, and recreation centers.

Entertainment

Concert halls, churches, movie theaters and more are allowed to operate (as always, confirm with your venue of choice before heading over). Expect any event space with theater-style seating to have staggered seating arrangements in order to allow for social distancing.

Parks

Oklahoma City’s beautiful public parks are open for your enjoyment. The city asks that you keep six-feet of space between yourself and anyone you don’t live with. And be sure to wash your hands often.
