As of July 27, there are 731 COVID-19 cases in Dallas County, 610 in Denton County, and 0 in Collin County. Residents of Carrollton and surrounding Dallas Fort Worth communities have had to adapt to a temporary new normal and have been met with many struggles along the way. There’s also been an outpouring of community support and neighbors helping neighbors while social distancing.

As a part of the Carrollton community, we’re here to help in any way we can. That means contact-free leasing and safer self storage practices, but it also means providing you with resources. We hope that by offering this information, we can help get you through this challenging time. Below you’ll find details on how to support your favorite Carrollton businesses, how to seek rent and food assistance, where to get tested, and more.

COVID-19 Testing

If you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, you’re working on the front lines, or you’re part of an at-risk group (eldery individuals and immunocompromised individuals, for example), testing is available in Carrollton and the surrounding cities and suburbs. For testing right in Carrollton, schedule an appointment and head to the Walmart Supercenter parking lot at 1213 East Trinity Mills Road. There is also testing at Ellis Davis Field House in Dallas and University of Dallas for Dallas County residents (you must provide proof of residency) and testing at the University of North Texas in Denton. All testing requires an appointment and may only be available to those with symptoms or in at-risk groups. If you’re not sure if that applies to you, call to confirm.

Support Local Restaurants

One delicious way to support the Carrollton community during the pandemic is by ordering takeout or delivery from a nearby restaurant. Whether you opt to drive up and get curbside pickup or get delivery from a third-party service like DoorDash, there are a ton of options. Choose from your favorite chains, such as Whataburger, Chipotle, and Starbucks or go for a local spot like Babe’s Chicken Dinner House, The Poke Point, A1 Chinese BBQ, El Rumbero Restaurant or Pat’s Donuts Shop. There are even some new restaurants that have opened their doors amidst COVID-19 that are worth checking out if you’re looking to mix it up.

Utilizing Services Online

The city of Carrollton offers online services 24-7 in order to help meet community needs while encouraging social distancing. You can access the library catalog, pay fines, pay utility bills, request extensions on citations and more, all online.

Help With Rent

Carrollton residents who are struggling to pay rent can find helpful information from the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas. This document details steps landlords may take to help tenants and also includes a lengthy list of organizations in the area that can provide financial assistance.

Help With Food

Food insecurity unfortunately has been exacerbated by the pandemic for many families. Fortunately, resources are available, especially for vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. In partnership with Kids Bring Life Inc, Carrollton offers free breakfast and lunch for children at designated pick up sites. Seniors in need of food assistance can count on Eldercare. Seniors can also take advantage of designated shopping hours specifically for this age group at various grocery stores including Albertsons and Walmart. Call individual locations to confirm hours and availability.
